I think the rich should do their fair share. They are not the ones like us middle class that are struggling. I totally agree with president obama, he's got a strong point on this tax thing. I hope it works.
all the trickle is in the stock market?
No! The pants legs of REAL workers who shower AFTER work!
And the sweat trickling down all over during that whole day of work before you get that shower!
as new mother can contest the only thing that trickles down is pee.
gee!maybe that is where the pee party got their name.
it seems as though boner is having trouble with them.he didn't get enough for the wealthy.
Since there was no maybe, I passed on the poll. My bottom line is I'm all for revisiting tax rates, especially those dealing with upper income levels, but not before serious attention has been paid to our out of control spending and the morbidly obese Federal Government has been given some "Biggest Loser" tough love !!
If you simply raise taxes, there will never be any serious effort to bring fiscal sanity back to our government and the end result may be another round of economic collapse, something no sane person should want our country to go through (again).
The difference between the President and myself is while I would also have no problem telling the top earners their tax rates are going up, I would never raise their taxes before I had our budget house in order or at least on the way to being in order!! I would never take money that I didn't have a good purpose in mind for, especially if it were to make for my fiscal irresponsibility.
I propose, (N.R.P.L.B.) No Rich Person Left Behind. All must pay up!
Did all these people make their money out in the wilderness?
No,they made it with our tax dollars which Bush gave to companies in forms of tax breaks and subsidies to invest overseas. Their share holders took the profits. These companies do not want to pay taxes in the US, pay taxes abroad and get a refund here for paying abroad. The same with share holders, the top2% do not want to pay taxes but it was with our tax dollars that their quarterly statements got so fat.
Most of them inherited their money, like the Koch brothers, but have been able to add to those riches immensely thanks to the tax loopholes and tax breaks via Ronnie Reagan and Georgie W. Bush. Both of which were elected by the ignorant and gullible Repugnicons, Independents and sadly even some Democrats.... not because of their perceived abilities. But at the time these unwary voters thought these 2 men were genial homesy guys they might like to have a beer with. This is how people get fooled into voting against their own best interests.
Those ignorant and gullible voters (mostly middle class) who were taken in by Reagan's and Bush's "homesy'' facades were naive enough to think these 2 men were on their side and only wanted to expand the American dream. Of course, this was not true, since both have been major players in working against the middle class and doing everything they could destroy any ability for anyone to raise their lot in life. Thus the income of the middle class has been on a decline or at best stagnant over the past 30 years since Reagan's administration helped along by the disaster Bush reeked on the country's economy.... while the rich have gotten richer.
Then we have slimey rich Corporate guys like the Koch's quietly buying up politicians or putting their bought politicians into both state and federal government, who have been directed to do all they can to defund the government by running up the deficit through more tax cuts for the rich and corporations so no revenue comes in. The result being that Democratic programs to help the poor and middle class can't be paid for and have to be cut, like education, health care, medicare, eventually they wanted to do away with Social Security, etc. etc. etc.
I don't believe that all rich people are evil or don't want to pay their taxes... like Obama said last night, many do want to pay their taxes and give back to the country that has been good to them. But there are the greedy rich like the Kochs who are only out for themselves and will do everything they can to undermine the American way. They are only interested in inserting their bought politicians that will defund the EPA, and any other part of government ment to regulate their behavior that might interfer with their bottomline.
Then there are the politicians like Reagan, Bush, McConnell, Boehner and pretty much every Repugnicon in office who are motivated by not only a combination of power and greed, but a real hatred of government. So their goal is not only to get the power and whatever profits they can make from that power, but also to make sure they do all in their power to stop the government from working for ordinary Americans. They do it by defunding it, cutting off the revenue supply by cutting taxes for the rich, giving huge subsidies to the companies that pay them, etc.
Until the ordinary people in this country open their eyes and realize that these Repugnicons are not telling them the truth about what they plan to do or what really motivates them, the more gullible and naive among these voters will continue to vote for these pariahs who are working for anything BUT THE AMERICAN DREAM.
Scully
What do you know about the Koch Brothers besides they are evil? Do you know how many people they employ, how much they give to charities and non-profit organizations? Do you know how much the pay in taxes? Do you know how much money they donated to Democrats running for office? Did you ever even hear their name before that fake phone call? Do you know anything at all about them other than they are evil? Can you tell me something about them that has not been presented to you on MSNBC?
Can you?
I'm sure they pay a lot in taxes, although they could pay more. I'm also sure that there donations are appreciated by said charities and non-profit organizations. I do believe however that the "fake phone call" told us all where they stand
@ bob dishman
<why do the pubs think given the rich more cuts and not adding any jobs in 10 years that giving more cuts is going to change things>
The Repugnicons don't want to change things, they don't want to improve the economy or even pay off the deficit. They cut revenue and did all this damage on purpose as a way of defunding the government. Their ultimate goal is to destroy the government and make sure it doesn't work for the middle class and poor or help them improve their lot in life.
Why do you think they are insisting all of the cuts to reduce the deficit come from the Democratic programs to help the middle class and poor, but not from tax increases to the rich?
Then of course they're attack on unions is a way to defund political campaigns for Democrats, so that the middle class and poor have no one to even fight for them in the government. The Repugnicons are looking for an unobstructed way to power and to carry on their goal of destroying the government, so they can private the entire thing and make us the United States of Americorp. One huge corporation from sea to polluted sea, and forget about purple mountains we won't be able to see them with unbreathable air, etc.
@2ez4u2c2
Actually yes.... I did know quite a bit about the Kochs before the fake phone call to Scott Walker. I've only heard of donations to Repugnicons, but can you tell me about Democrats they've donated to, and I'll be sure not to vote for them either. I'm equally against bought politicians who don't work for the best interests of the regular people, no matter what party.
By the way, political donations given to buy influence and favors, does not qualify as charitable donations, though I'm sure that is probably how the Kochs list them on their tax returns.
Scully
The Koch Brothers made donations to Bobby Bright a Democrat from Alabama and Andrew Cuomo the Democrat Governor of New York, as well as other Democrats.
They employ 50,000 in the US and over the past ten years the Koch Brother have given over 600 million to charities involving the arts, education, and medical research.
How about Obama and Democrats in the House and Senate. GE’s average donation to Senate Democrats in 2008 was 24K. In 2010 their average donation to Democrat Representatives was about 5K. In 2010 GE spent 43 Million on Lobbying. Also in 2010 GE paid no Federal Income Tax and received 3.2 Billion in a tax refund.
So are Obama and the Democrats evil and corrupt? They have been bought and are in the pockets of Big Business and are acting in their interest not ours. Now lets see you renounce Obama.
By the way, GE plays both sides of the fence, just like most Big Business.
@2ez4u2c2
I live in California, so can't vote or not vote for the Democrats you named. One key question I would ask regarding the people the Kochs employ is whether they are allowed to join unions or bargain collectively, which would tell me whether they were being paid a decent wage or have good work conditions. Simply employing lots of people isn't necessarily the important thing... as sweat shops employ lots of people also.
I am also aware of GE not paying taxes and receiving what they call a "tax rebate" (which is a lot of crap) and this I learned on the Maddow show. See the difference between Democrats and Repugnicons is that we tell the truth about our own even when there is a problem there.
There is nothing wrong with a corporation donating money to a candidate, unless they expect a favor of some kind in return. I haven't noticed the Democrats saying that tax rates need to be raised on all corporations.... except GE. If they did, I would have a problem with that. See.... it's not the donation that is the corrupting factor, it's the favors like tax breaks or defunding the EPA in return for the donation that is the problem.
Isn't it funny that one of the bargaining chips the Teaparty wanted during the past budget debate was the defunding of the EPA.... just what the Koch brothers wanted. I guess the money they paid the Tea party candidates paid off for them.
Show me where Obama and the Democrats are doing the bidding of the rich or big corporations who have paid them. When Obama began his campaign for President for 2008, he set up a grassroots system to make sure there weren't outrageously large donations from any one person or corporation. Just to make sure not to be charged with favoritism, etc. I know because I've donated to his campaign then and since.
I haven't seen him working in favor of any particular person or corporation.... he has been working for the average American people as a whole in his policies, like health care reform, tax cuts for the middle class, etc. So no... Obama has no signs of corruption so far.... but I'm keeping an eye on him.
Scully
Obama and the Democrats had complete control, majorities in the House and Senate for nearly two years. They had the ability to do many things with such control. They didn’t so much as discuss changing the tax code to eliminate loopholes and exemptions for big businesses and corporations. They didn’t even pass legislation that would have ensured the Bush Era Tax Cuts would expire. Many on this site blame the Republican Minority for filibusters and obstructionism. For this I have two comments. The Democrats never put forth any Tax Reform Legislation to filibuster and secondly Obama Care was passed regardless of all the resistance from Republicans. If Obama and the Democrat Majorities wanted Tax Reform they would of passed legislation.
Obama and the Democrats that are now condemning the wealthy and corporations for failure to pay their so called “Fair Share” knew the Republicans would want to extend the Bush Era Tax Cuts and they knew the Republicans were going to take a Majority in the House in 2010. Knowing this and failing to pass Tax Reform legislation while they had complete control would lead a reasonable person to believe that while the average citizen belonging to the Democrat Party wants Tax Reform, the Democrat Politicians do not.
Much like Bush Senior was responsible for raising taxes because he did not Veto the budget pushed by the Democrats in the House and Senate, Obama is responsible for not exercising his Veto over the extension of the Bush Era Tax Cuts pushed by the Republican House. Bottom Line, not only did Obama and the Democrat Majorities fail to pass Tax Reform Legislation, Obama extended the tax cuts.
That said how can you continue to believe there is any difference between Republican and Democrat Politicians when it come to Tax Reform? Don’t listen to what they say, pay attention to what they do or in the case of Tax Reform, what they don’t do. Actions do in deed Speak Louder than Words. Obama and the Democrats through their inaction have clearly communicated their support for the current Tax System.
Can you tell me one thing Obama and the Democrats have actually done to support your opinion they are supportive of Tax Reform, not something they have said, but something they have done. Their only actions on the matter have actually contradicted their stated position, they extended the Bush Era Tax Cuts.
It doesn't matter if a party has the presidency, house and senate if it only takes 1 Obstructionist saying no. When President Obama was voted in, Mitch McConnell and Boehner made no bones about their "TOP PRIORITY". Making sure the President didn't have a 2nd term. They don't even care who they hurt to meet their goals. That is why as much as Democrats infuriate me at times I cannot be a Republican. Republicans prove time and time again that they do not care who they step on or whose blood they spill to get more money for themselves and their Corporate buddies. DISGUSTING!!
Enough is enough is right! These greedy high income tax payers need to wake up. We're funding 2 wars and starting to get into another one, straining to keep medicare and social security stable and these greedy Americans want an tax cut. All the while they live here and enjoy the fruits they have. Who do they think should pay for all this? The poor? Probably so. I say don't give an inch, if the democrats can't get the tax rates they need, wait until the Republicans are voted out, which is a certainty, and then do all that is needed and leave them out of it.
At this point in time, SS & Medicare are NOT in crisis. Yet all these repuke bozos keep trying to say it is so they can put through their plans to take all the money and give it to the Wall Street GREEDIES!!!
Stop the lies!!!!
@Rich-3310311
Fortunately, the Democrats don't have to do anything to dial back the tax rates. Obama can't do anything about the extended tax cuts from now till the end of 2012. But they will then expire and automatically go back to the rate they were at during the Clinton administration before Dubya Bush changed them.
Since Obama will veto anything the Repugnicons try to pass to extend the lower rate...or lower them further, not that it would get past the Democratic Senate anyway. But the only way the Repugnicons can get those tax rates extended or made permanent, is if we allow a Repugnicon President and Repugnicon run Senate to be elected.
WE CAN'T LET THAT HAPPEN, THE FUTURE OF AMERICA AND IT'S CITIZENS DEPENDS ON IT.
Only if you're making at least $250,000 or more per year.
Social Security is full of IOUs left over from the Bush adm. and now they want to privatize it so we forget about the IOUs. I think they should go to jail for embezzlement. If they would have privatized it 10 years ago, during the last stock market crisis we would have lost it all. Same with medicare. Besides who do we rather pay to administer it, a CEO who will require a multimillion salary or a civil servant. And who are going to be the share holders, us (the tax payers) or the top 2% elite of greedy, money hungry vultures?
@afrommi
Not only did the Bush administration steal from Social Security, but shortly after he was put into office by the corrupt and biased Repugnicon Supreme Court of 2000, he also looted the treasury of 125 million dollars that belonged to the American people. He gave it away to his rich friends, so technically he and his Repugnicon cronies owe the American people that money also. They should all pay up or go to jail.
PAY UP BUSH, CHENEY, MCCONNELL, BOEHNER, CANTOR and all other Repugnicons in Congress who allowed Bush to give our money away.
@annnottheman
Yeah... taxes will go up on everyone when the Bush tax cuts expire, but Obama has given many tax cuts for the middle class and poor only.... some in the original stimulus and some he was able to add to the extension of the Bush cuts last December.
I can see him reinstituting the cuts for the middle class and poor after they've expired if he gets reelected, and as long as their aren't a bunch of Repugnicons or teabaggers voted in to stand in his way of doing what's right for the middle class.
But if a Repugnicon gets in office (or The Donald, if there is anyone stupid enough to vote for him), and people still vote to keep the Teabaggers and Repugnicons in the House, it will be more bad news for the 98% of us.... but great for the rich.
@annnottheman
I am one of those 98% and I certain did pay taxes through the nose when Georgie Dubya was in office. Fortunately not so much since Obama gave the rest of us needed tax relief, since we had been carrying the country, plus 2 wars, etc. all thanks to Dubya the idiot. In fact it was only after Obama got into office that I got an actual tax return instead of owing more money, since the Clinton administration.
Which is why I know that the Teabaggers original protest on Tax day 2009 was a bunch of baloney, since if they really were a grassroots organization of middle class.... they also would have had lower taxes like I did. Which is why I know the Teabaggers protest had nothing to do with higher taxes like they claimed it was.... and was more likely a fear of having a black man in office. Something a bunch of racist bigots just can't deal with.
I don't normally care to have a battle of wits with an unarmed person such as yourself. Since your comments above made very little sense, I'm assuming you might be one of those ignorant bigots.
Since the Republicans do not believe in taxes - maybe they think we should just have a cake bake when we need a new road, or a new bridge. Republicans! start looking at your toes, not your heals - you are living in the 19th century. You go Obama - dems ae proud that you even picked this fight - it's one that needs to be settled.
My brothers didn't give their lives in war for someone's right to monopolize wealth while others starve. I want my brothers back.
Jim, I am sorry for the loss of your 2 brothers. I myself thank them for their service to the United States.
Jim, I am truly sorry for your loss. If not for them the US or other would have the chance to be safe or know what freedom is all about.
Jim, God Bless your brothers and all who served in the wars. My father, father-in-law and Grandfather all fought in WWII. My husband served during the Viinet Nam war. My father-in-law was captured during the Battle of the Bulge. He was imprisoned until the war's end in one of those horrible concentration camps. He like, my father and grandfather, would not be happy with what the Republicans are doing to workers rights. I wonder how many of the Tea Partiers ever put their lives on the line to server their country. They've been coddled all their lives and have not lived through the rough times like the rest of us.
I want your brothers back too! Make those pro-war Rich pay for their stupid wars. I will pray you find peace my fellow American.
Jim,
I'm sorry for your loss, and God bless your family for its sacrifice. My dad was in the Navy for 30 years.
My family used to be Republican, like Eisenhower Republican. My dad wouldn't recognize the GOP today. He'd be horrified. In some ways I'm thankful he isn't here to see this mess.
i don't think jim's brothers died for the rich they died because georgie. a --------- who ran to the reserves to stay out of nam then lost his last year of service. it was easy back then. he started the war in iraq for what? based all on LIES. i am surprised that more americans are not upset over the deaths.
i live near a fort, i have talked to soldiers who have gone off to the wars 6 and 7 times. how can our country tell theses people to go back into harms way more than once.sooner or later everyones luck comes to an end why push it. these soldiers deserve all the countries respect.
Oh my God, Bush knew it was false intelligence. His pal, Rumstad, admitted that he knew. He also said Bush wanted to invade Iraq BEFORE 2001. I bet you have never served in the military. My grandfather, dad and father-in-law served during the WWII war and my husband served 3 years during the Vietnam war. My father-in-law paid a high price for his service. He was captured in the Battle of the Bulge and spent the remainder of the war in a German concentration camp. He died at the age of 47 because of the injuries and sickness he endured during that time. As for annotherman, how dare you call this issue crap. These people fought for American rights and freedom. YOU are free today because of these brave men. You should be ASHAMED of yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
annnottheman: How despicably cruel of you. I've lost family in wars and had a brother serve 4 years in Viet Nam and a nephew who has been called to Iraq the 3rd time. How dare you. Jim I apologize for annnottheman who doesn't deserve to be a member of the human race.
@annnottheman
Apparently you missed the Andrea Mitchell interview with Rumsfeld that I saw (when he was peddling that pack of lies he called a book) where he was confronted by Mitchell with the facts of how he "shaped" the intelligence reports to say what he and Bush and Cheney wanted them to say.
The reasons the Bush administration gave for starting the Iraq war were a bunch of lies, and they used the 9/11 attack as a justification to then attack Iraq and take revenge on Saddam for his attempt on Bush's daddy's life. This was all just a person vendetta of Dubya's and the other's helped him carry it out, using and costing lives of the US army and paid for by taxpayers money of course. A pretty high cost for the personal vendetta of an idiot.
Gene
Those brave solders go to war 6 and 7 times because only 10% of the population serves in the Armed Forces. They go 6 and 7 times so the rest of the Nation can sit at home and enjoy the rights and freedoms those solders fight and die for. They go 6 or 7 times because our Nations Leaders sent them there and keeps them there. God bless your family members that served and those young troops serving yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Bring back the Draft! You will see just how much people want all of these wars. If you want to cut the budget, slash defense by 90%. Bring our people home and have them rebuild our roads, bridges, sewers, seawalls, etc. Have the ones who are above comic-book level instruction teach in schools. And cut down the military to a standing militia. We still have ICBM's; we could kill the world many times over with just them. That should satisfy the hawks.
HELL NO and they certaintly need to! they need to pay thier fair share and then some!!!!!!!!!!
And over the past two years what exactly has obama done for "ALL of US"? Did he end the wars? No he started another one. Did he create jobs? No still 9% unemployment. Did he close GITMO? No still up and operating. Did he reform the Tax Code? No, Business still has it easy. Did he stop the violence on the Mexican Border? No still a problem. Did he address the illegal Immigration problem? No they are still draining our state's welfare, education, and medical systems. Did he get everyone Healthcare coverage? No better than 70% of us already had it, and the rest still don't. Did he reduce are dependence on foreign oil? Not at all and the price of gas and fuel oil is going through the roof. Did he rebuild the Nation's infrastructure? No still have bad roads and bridges. Did he increase our standard of living? No he is destroying it, inflation is here and its going to get much worst. So what exactly did he do for "ALL of US"?
any obama voter, any obama supporter any tax the rich supporter should check this site out to open their eyes and minds
it is on youtube " eat the rich" bill whittle channel
then check out WWW.debtclock.org
then and only then type your opinions
@politcalwatcher
Do you also go by the name 2ez4u2c2, because he asked me these exact same questions in yesterdays blog. I tell you what I told him.
I don't generally attempt to have a battle of wits with someone who is so obviously unarmed with said WITS, and especially since you obviously don't really want to be convinced. But Obama has spent the past 2 + years working to save this country and the economy from the disastrous condition Bush 2 and cohorts left it in, all with the Repugnicons fighting him and the Democrats every step of the way to make sure as little recovery got done as possible. Now the TEAbaggerpugnicons are helping to further that cause with their own special idiocy.
As far as your idiotic question about reducing America's dependence on foreign oil or repairing infrastructure, addressing illegal immigration or violence on Mexico border.... like I said... Obama has been busy saving the very structure and fabric of the American economy. He is one man and can't do everything at once. But he certainly has done a hell of a lot more than Bush ever did in any of the areas you asked about... and that was in 8 long years of him stealing the taxpayers money and wasting it on unnecessary wars while he played golf.
Here is a link to a site that names about 45 or 46 of the things Obama has done.
#hasobamadonesofar.com/
In addition:
Obama has ended one war and will being ending the other soon
Obama has created more jobs in the last 2 years than Bush did in 8 years
Obama has at least given some thought to those other issues and will accomplish them as soon as he can get to them I have no doubt, within the next 2 years or in his next term as President.
DScully...sure do like and agree with your post...you have a lot of knowledge about what is happening to our great country. It all started with reagan (who so many ignorant people worship) and gwb(who stole the electiom in 2000 with the help of his brother and the supreme court) who did everything he could do spend more money and started a war on lies to put this country in the hole. Why? It has been their plan for 30 years to destroy SS, medicare, medicaid, and public education. they have done it by giving tax cuts to the wealthy and corporations and etc so the government would not have the money to fund the social programs to help the people. So many people just cannot believe that the repubs are that evil...but they are!!! they are controlled by grover norquist and the koch, as well as the bushes. But this destruction of medicare has a lot of seniors upset. including me...i am covered because of my age but i care for my children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. I know the cost of medical care and this piddling vocher the repubs want to give them will not cover their medical care and insurances will deny them help. most seniors know this and that is why we are upset and calling the WH as well as the speaker and paul ryan..we have to keep yelling and complainig and making sure we wake up enough people for the 2012 election and vote out the repubs and tea party nuts.
At this rate, we may go back to the 1930's. I hope that those who are up for re-elections in 2012 (republicans) get their but kicked out of the senate and house.
Why does fake news protect the rich?? Do all rich people have businesses and will they hire people? They have not done so for 10 years! Why will they start now?
because they are the rich Bill. You are right,it hasn't worked, and didn't work during Ragan. fake news is the republican channel. Sadly people believe the crap they shovel out
"fake news is the republican channel. Sadly people believe the crap they shovel out?
then why is the top 15 news programs presently on tv all on fox???
politicalwatcher: well, there are a lot of fools out there, unfortunately! If the actual ratings of The 'Fictional News' Network really are that high it can only mean one of two things. Either some people (like us progressives) like to watch Fixed News for the outrageous comedy elements, like Hannity and O'Reilly trying to sound honest and relevant. Its fun to check up on the doings of the dark sides favorite channel, chuckle at their far right talking points, watch them praise Glenn Beck's tiny tea bagger rallies paid for by Koch Bros cash and made larger by people who were bused in and paid to wave signs in, as if more than a sliver of America even agreed with more than 10% of what they say. Sad deal, listening to Beck & Bachmann doing a con job on the poor shleps who take the tea bagger stuff seriously. Sad that a lot of viewers out there probably really are as scary-stupid as Palin and Dubya! And if that's the case, gee whiz, WOW!
PS...@impeachW. Your a total lemming. just like many "progressives" you think you are so elite. What a joke. Your "factual" news outlets spew hate and slam character. They don't report news. Its delivered by a bunch of hot head activists. You my friend should lose voting rights...and probably be drug tested
Everyone pays their fair share we need to bring jobs back to the US and I do not want to pay any more taxes for people to make more on unemployment, food stamps or other entitlement programs. And I would love to see what Americans you are talking to because you aren't talking to middle America
No Phyllis, everyone doesn't pay there fair share of taxes. When a company gets 1/3 of their net income as a refund, that isn't fair. My wife and I haven't gotten 1/3 of our income as a tax return, we are lucky to get any at all. So look at your refund, does it total 1/3 of your income? If not is that fair?
Phyllis, unemployed people and the poor are not our enemies, and being unemployed is not a moral downfall. It happens to nearly every family these days. Unemployment is insurance we pay for so we have it to fall back on when we lose our jobs. It's like homeowners insurance. You hope you never need it, but if you do, thank goodness it's there.
In the richest country in the world, I prefer we feed our poor people. The alternative is to let them starve when they can't make a living working overtime making minimum wage. That's $7.25/hr in case you didn't know.
If you are a single parent with 2 children, you can't make enough income to pull yourself and your kids out of poverty. You seem to think these people get welfare and have cars, jewelry, and don't work. Nothing could be further from the truth. That kind of welfare has been over since the 1990s.
The poor are working hard, struggling and falling through the cracks. They live in slums, ride the bus, there kids go to failing public schools, they either qualify for Medicaid or they have to go to emergency rooms for treatment because they can't afford a doctor.
They don't go to the dentist unless they can find a dentist who accepts Medicaid. Even then, they get basic care, cleanings & fillings. If a tooth breaks, it will probably be pulled. Once they lose enough teeth, they will get dentures because that is cheaper than crowns, implants, and root canals. And you can forget braces. People with bad teeth and poor dental care die much earlier than those with good dental care.
Have you worked a minimum wage job anytime lately? It's grueling. It's physical, non-stop and exhausting. There are no benefits. Your employer can keep you overtime for hours if they want to, and if you need to leave anytime near on time, they can fire you and find somebody else who will take the abuse.
Phyllis, you don't belong to the middle class or you would not have the attitude you have. You may not be rich, but you are part of the upper middle class who isn't affected by the current employment disaster we are experiencing. YOU are not talking to middle America.
Anyone who thinks that workers make more on unemployment is sadly misinformed. A worker has to work a minimum nimber of weeks before becoming eligible for unemployment. Then the worker has to be let go for reasons that do NOT include any misconduct, and also can't quit unless the company can be proven to have given the worker cause (read that "company misconduct toward the worker"). After those qualifiers have been met the worker will get an amount equaling HALF the amount he was earning, for an amount of time (unless extended by the government) that is ether Half the number of weeks worked, or a number of weeks set by law, whichever comes first. Also to stay eligible for benefits the worker has to be actively searching for a job. That means that he/she is out "pounding the pavement" putting in applications for jobs that mostly do not exist. The important thing here is that the jobs have to be there for anyone to get hired for them.
Give a group of rich men a sum of money and they will bank it. No jobs created there. Give a group of poor men a sum of money and they will buy things they need, that is demand, now supply can kick in and that will create jobs. Those jobs will be filled mostly by poor people who will spend the money they earn on things they need. More demand here creating more jobs. I will admit that that is a simplistic model, but it is basically sound. Things like diminishing returns will make sure that unless investors on the supply side get too greedy inflation will be controllable.
With a small amount of enlightened self interest on the part of the investors this country can reach nearly full employment with an economy that would make all others (including our best years) look very shabby. Of course that would lead to a much larger middle class, and it seems that conservatives would rather not see.
Sorry Phyllis but you must be talking to a small segment of the people cause where I live, (also the midwest). We want no more of this extremest teabagger mess. I and a lot of other folks all realize that you cannot run a country and take care of your roads, bridges, regulate the things that need to be regulated like, the food you eat, the air you breath and the water you drink the medicine that you take and the banks that contain your money the military that defends you and the emergency services that come to your aid in a disaster without the taxes that we pay which pay for those things and many more. It is human maybe to want to keep as much as you can but since we all need these things and services it is fair that all of us who can, pay our fair share to see to it that these things continue to be provided for all of us. Let us not return to the days when old ladies who could no longer work were eating cat food and living in squalor. I was around during some of those bad old days and if you pay really close attention you will see that that is the direction that the tea partiers and the republicans who are terrified by them are pointing us to, I don't know about you but I do not wish to revisit those days.
Freda - I'm with you. I want to drink clean water, breathe clean air, and eat safe food. I remember when women had few rights and the Republicans want to take those away. I remember WWII rationing and when women did all the men's work because there were no men left at home to do it. Most of all I remember a country that was patriotic and pulled together instead of apart. I miss civility. I heard that New Jersey governer who threatened to take a bat to a 76 year old lady state representative. I saw Scott Walker today when he admitted that his union busting was ideological and not to save the state of Wisconsin. What has happened to the morals and ethics of our politicians. What kind of role models are they for future generations.
I hope I'm helping to pay unemployment benefits! It is what is
keeping people who have the unfortunate luck to lose their jobs
of the condition this country has found itself.
A divorced Mother of 4 who left one job a year ago to better
better herself and her family with a higher income job. Only
to be told she is being laid off. Then after looking for employment
for close to a year was willing to work at anything. Found the
only job she could get was a partime job at Starbucks!!!
Fair, Phyliss???? And the Rich are complaining they don't want
the tax rate of the Pre-Bush tax cuts!! Shame on Them!!!!!
How dare they!!!! We all must sacrifice and help in this time
of poor economy in anyway we can and anyway we can afford to help
those in worse shape!!! I pray the Republicans don't get into
High Office because Heaven Help Us!!!
Phyllis, you are evidently a member of the Tinkle-Down Party or at least you listen to their drool. It has been shown time and again that the rich use every "trick" in the book (exemptions, loop-holes, off-shoring income, etc.) so that if they pay anything at all it probably isn't above 5%/10% of the small amount they're suppose to be paying. Now I agree that it is the politicians that have made this possible by bribery/lobbying. But you can't really be so ignorant as to believe the rich pay "their fair share"!!!!
They have been on a E ticket ride for the past decade while paying for an economy ticket or sneaking on the ride.
The more you have the more you want. It's just plain greedy. The rich get richer the poor write proposals.
If they want reduced rates, say to 25%, then lets do away with all deductions and let them pay on their gross income.
Love that idea, and since they want to do away with Medicare, let them and everyone in their family have their health insurance away from them. No deductions on your taxes for dependents or perhaps an elderly parent that they are supporting. I bet they claim them and I bet Medicare pays for their health protection.
Oregon Vet, do you really think a person earning $25,000 a year and trying to raise a family can do without the standard deduction and exemptions, much less pay a flat rate of 15% the way some want? There is a basic cost of living below which you can't feed and shelter yourself.
Republicans never want to pay higher taxes, but they want the middle class too
And over the past two years what exactly has obama done for “ALL of US”? Did he end the wars? No he started another one. Did he create jobs? No still 9% unemployment. Did he close GITMO? No still up and operating. Did he reform the Tax Code? No, Business still has it easy. Did he stop the violence on the Mexican Border? No still a problem. Did he address the illegal Immigration problem? No they are still draining our state’s welfare, education, and medical systems. Did he get everyone Healthcare coverage? No better than 70% of us already had it, and the rest still don’t. Did he reduce are dependence on foreign oil? Not at all and the price of gas and fuel oil is going through the roof. Did he rebuild the Nation’s infrastructure? No still have bad roads and bridges. Did he increase our standard of living? No he is destroying it, inflation is here and its going to get much worst. So what exactly did he do for “ALL of US”?

Politicalwatcher: Apparently you chose the same script, you repub paid blogger. This was posted by DScully @ 5.33a when you first posted this scene:
@politcalwatcher
Obama has created more jobs in the last 2 years than Bush did in 8 years
Obama has at least given some thought to those other issues and will accomplish them as soon as he can get to them I have no doubt, within the next 2 years or in his next term as President.
does it mention that under obama we now have RECORD deficits, national debt, forclosures , 25 year highs in unemployment this will be the fourth time under obama we have to raise the debt ceiling and now are in Libya or should I say "military kinetic action"???
politicalwatcher, please tell me you are NOT that gullible?? Bush got us in this mess! Please pay attention. Unless, you are "one of them".
Annottheman, just bcz your parents, guardian (if you had any) jumped at the snap of YOUR fingers to your demand "GIMME, GIMME, GIMME", does not mean reality is that way! You think one man can do that alone, mind you the House & Senate at each others throat like children, do you realistically think he can get sh*t done like this?? Just stop whinning, you whimp! Pull your head out of your own a$$...you need help with that? Guess what, Imma tell you, what you told me, (past posts) Fend for yourself, LAMEA$$, get your head outta your own a$$!! Im sure Mr. Obama doesn't care if you love him or not...BTW, the GOP won't let the US nation move forward through Obama, anyway. Hmm...Wonder why that is? The Obamacare had to go through Congress, so if you don't like it, blame them, not just one. You really must be in pocket! They got you trained well!
no they dont. the middle class put in way more then they do. we are the ones who get get screwed in everyway possible. if they put in half as much as we do if not more things would be alot better for everyone.
They top 10% payed 70% of the federal budget in '08, while the bottom 50% payed <3%... How much should the evil rich have to pay? What kind of country have we become where people who are successful and achieve through hard work, education, risk and talent are demonized!
You have not checked your facts very well. The Oil companies not only did not pay taxes, but they received REBATES while the middle class suffer. The wealthy have prospered from lower taxes for 10 years. They have not provided any jobs, however, their wealth improved greatly over the years. Believe it or not, I know many wealthy tax payers and they are not opposed to paying a little more. It does not make that much of a difference in what they pay. Unlike the big business companies who are whinning after make obscene profits in the last 3 years. Start listening to the news. By the way, FOX NEWS is not what I mean. If you don't trust CNN, MSNBC,ETC. listen to your local news and read the paper.
Most of the rich kids had a silver spoon stuck up their @$$, and snapped off in the middle since born. Mommy and Daddy protected them during grade school, strike that, PRIVATE schools. Put them through college even though they barely got passing grades. (ie) leaving the nest and Mom's open arm's.
Then these SILVER SPOON bastard's get a "sheep skin" that tells the world that "they" are educated enough to lead the world, and find lemmings like the TEA PARTY, willing to follow their lead.
The same people I see in Chicago in their MERCEDES and BMW's, that exit a ramp when it's 20 below, and ignore a homeless person begging for change.
I GOT MINE !!!!
Am I confused? Is this Fox News? I would appreciate where you found your information. Read Rich Dad, Poor Dad. Its a "how-to" book on building wealth, and keeping it without paying your taxes. Its basically the rich person's bible.
Doem, maybe that person in the mercedes speeding by in Illinois was Obama. Two times between the years of 2000-2006 he gave less than 1% to charities. Ignoring more people than just the homeless.
Sounds like you were repeatedly pushed into lockers by one rich kid in high school and have had a grudge ever since... Move on, that was probably over ten years ago, and you only have to see him at reunions every 5 to 10 years.
Erin, if it is legal than what is the problem....hate the game not the playa.
No one is demonizing the Rich! All we are asking is that they can afford
the Pre-Bush Tax Rate more then the middle class or the Poor!
We all are doing our part to sacrifice in this economy. What are you
doing to sacrifice???
hell no they aren't paying their fair share. hell no, they haven't created any new jobs with their tax cuts. i mean jobs that are not minimum wage jobs too.
Good point. By the way, annotheman, look who's calling the kettle black. You surely are not showing your intellegence in name calling.
annn you and these others just prove that ignorance must be bliss.keep posting i do need the laughs.thank you. you say retard, but as you can see none of us are going around whining don't tax the rich. "alms for the RICH"
ya your real smart.
i am glad to see you are exercising one of only two things the republicans give to(poor republicans) you rigth to HATE. and remember the other thing is a gun.
you make me laugh, thank you
NO! NO! NO!
And if the Republicans have their way they never will. I hope all of the people who voted those nutcase-wack job people in are happy with less for themselves and their children because that's just what they got!!!! WAKE UP MIDDLE CLASS AMERICA-Your doom is right over the horizon....

Political
Has he shown any LEADERSHIP in trying to mend this terribly torn country, of course not. He is mainly responsible for all the third grade rhetoric that we hear on these pages
If the wealthy paid more taxes and the distribution of that wealth was distributed to the middle class, and the poor, the income of the wealthy would go up, because the middle class and the poor would have more money to purchase goods. The way it is now, the poor and middle class have very little money to purchase extra's, so there are no jobs.
In order to create jobs, the middle class and the poor have to have money to purchase goods. If the wealthy have all the money, there is no need to distribute goods, because no one, except the wealthy, can afford to purchase them.
