WELCOME BACK ED!!!
Next time you want to tell the nasty truth about someone on the right, have me on your show, I'll do it for you!
Ed,
You are not going to believe this. Just few minutes before Rachel ends her show I was saying to myself please bring Ed back. I thought I was going to write to MSNBC. Welcome back. You are one of the best in the business. I am very, very glad. This is my first time commenting, I have never done it at all to anyone in the news business, but I watch MSNBC a lot. Go Ed.
Ed, love you, buddy, but get off your high horse! You're not perfect either, notice your absence for the last two weeks. Anthony Weiner is a fearless fighter for the middle class and poor. Anthony Weiner has never gotten in front of his constituents and spouted his family values philosophy as so many others have. What he did was wrong, yes. What he did was very disappointing, yes. What others on both the left and right have done was wrong, yes. He has hurt himself in the process, but that does not change the fact that it is his personal life, he appears not to have done anything illegal. There will be an ethics investigation, and wait and see what they find, if anything but what Rep. Weiner has confessed to. The reason we can't stand the right is for their hypocrisy, not for their human flaws.
The question we should be asking what is Breitbart's occupation. A marriage destroyer, a career destroyer. There is not one that has never lied or sinned. Everyone has some secret to hide, there is not one human that is blameless. The only one offended by this is his wife and the whole think should be between them. Mr. Breitbart, apparently makes a living out of hacking and what the Bible calls gossiping and busy bodying around. I think that what ever comes from him should be ignored unless it is about a President who sends our young women and men to a war based on a lie and then laughs about it. Where was this guy when Bush was lying about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? He would serve the people better if he has a better definition of what real news mean. This is feeds the shallow people time that can be spent in other more worthy pursuits.
Did Bill Clinton resign? Is newt Gingrich running for President? Is Senator Vitter still a Senator? Why should Anthony Weiner resign? There are others I am sure screwing up even worse. He is a strong Rep. and when he speaks it is from the heart so he said he was sorry lets move on and please Ed dont do another whole 40 minutes on this subject.
sodapop,
why are you writing something so ignorant when you know that republicans are no more trustworthy than democrats when it comes to their sexual secrets? in fact they are worse because they preach family values, and have tried to take rights away from gays, the very people from whom they get their sexual pleasure.
what do you have to say about that?
I don't think it has anything to do with his job.
He does a good job, but he shouldn't have lied about it.
Oh goody, a new Fox Noise Troll. What program are you watching? The first thing he did is tell Weiner to resign. Seriously, pay attention.
and 70% of your fellow posters think he should NOT RESIGN
SO SO TYPICAL
I agree, the lies were bad but he is over 21 so whats the big deal texting or sexting...he is human so let it go and let him be the congressman we love to stand up for us.
Cheech . . . the Faux News Trolls just keep coming out from under the rocks . . .
Ed Is A Pig ???
Right-Wing Nuts are fascists.
politicalwatcher, he said that Ed told him not to resign, and that is not true. And what does that have to do with how many people voted no?
IF ANTHONY WEINER WAS A CONSERVATIVE OR A REPUBLICAN???
iT WOULD BE tilted 97% TO 2.7%
THE MSNBC POSTERS ARE CIRCLING THE WAGONS
BUT I HOPE WEINER STAYS
Ah Glen, the bats are out tonight. Don't know what pw's answer was, but I can see from your post, that he is dancing around the bush as usual.
sodapop: EXACTLY how did he 'use his office' to cover up his lie?
And NONE of the Republicans involved in sex scandals (or any other kind) EVER lied about it or tried to cover it up?
It was not what he did, he lied and lied about the subject, therefore he should go. I always liked him and am highly disappointed in his actions.
Breitbatt violated Weiners right to Privacy by publishing the first photo and making a big deal out of it. Weiner was back into a corner and he should not have hedged his answers.
What I really worry about is if the extremists are going to start identifying anyone who doesn't stick to the missionary position. When does the invasion of our "bedrooms" end?
If every elected official that lied to the press and/or people resigned, there would be nobody left. CITY, STATE, COUNTY OR FEDERAL.
Nanette, I suppose you have never told a lie in your life. I don't like liars, but human nature sometimes causes us to do what we know is wrong to protect ourselves or those we love. There was only one person who walked the earth who was WITHOUT sin and that was Jesus. I think he once said those without sin cast the first stone. Unless I've missed something, Jesus has not made a second coming yet.
This is just a new "Playboy". Men have been cheating for years......This is just more personal. I still don't defend the guy.....it is just creepy. Sex secrets should not be kept from your wife or husband.....You made a commitment. As a congressmen he made a commitment. He is not trustworthy, democrat, republican, teabegger, or husband.
Welcome back Ed but please leave A. Weiner alone. We all make mistakes and as long as he does his work. Enough already, please dont continue this and lets get back to work on the economy.
Sorry, Ed. but those without SIN let him throw the first stone.
Yes Ed you are being too tough. I totally disagree with you and I live in Ga not NY.
Glad to see you back, Ed.
I agree with Edie--lets focus on what's important here. This press is not helping with the need to:
1. End bonuses and negative taxes for rich corporations;
2. Put Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security on a solid footing by bringing down medical costs which have increased too fast; eliminating waste and fraud where they occur; increasing contributions by all working Americans to fund the system into the future; moving to a public option for all to eliminate the profit factor by private health insurers that so drives up the costs.
3. Taxes will have to be increased on those making over $250k and serious legislation to bring manufacturing back to America so that unemployment goes back to minimal levels;
4. Government needs to invest now in the country's infrastructure--to provide a boost to the job market and to guarantee to investors that this country's roads, railroads, electrical system, etc. are such that America is the country of choice to locate their plants/businesses;
5. Campaign reform is urgently needed if America is to remain a democracy in anything but name. Curtail the power of wealty individuals, institutions, lobbies. Real and inclusive spending caps or using only public funds, whatever. Truth in advertising. Perhaps a system that critiques political advertising and exposes lies and distortion when it occurs.
Gosh, there is so much more--why are we spending so much time on a stupid example of "bad judgment"?
He can certainly can servive-but we're not them! He should resign & attempt to regain his seat in 2012 to regain his creditibility.
His terrible lie? When confronted, he denied, out of embarrassment, that he did naughty. Not illegal, not cruel, not evil, but naughty. His reaction was the same as the way 99.9% of us would react if caught doing something so adolescent and embarrassing. "Did you send a naughty picture?" "I did not." So, how did this harm the nation? Hundreds of thousands of people died because George W. Bush told a lie, but at no time did people show this kind of outrage! Where the hell is America's sense of proportion?
*disagree with you.
Ed is a Pig banned, high-volume gimmick trolling, called everyone idiots. Don't do that.
Power is an aphrodisiac and politics is all about power.
This tragic situation for Wiener and others of both parties is that they become insulated from the reality the rest of us face every day . . . the reality that actions have consequences. They somehow develop this belief that they are above consequences because of their power. Not so.
Anthony Wiener has been an incredible politician and has fought hard for people of modest means and little leverage. It is so depressing that this had to happen.
The urge to have excitement and stimulation ends up overriding the needs of the people they represent . . . it is so sad.
Maybe he was bringing joy to some poor girls life that needed a friend and a picture or two to cheer her up. Is that so bad?
13 deleted, personal attack derail from politcalwatcher; you're suspended for a week for violating #1 of the Code of Honor - repeatedly.
Nice job following #1 in your responses, folks, but you might as well ignore, report, and move on next time.
YES Mr Ed he should resign, in fact i think the REAL PEOPLE of US should come up with there OWN LAW for are so called POLITICANS that if you screw up like WEINER did ETC you cant resign your FIRED! Period.NO HEALTH CARE paid by the PEOPLE,NO more benifits..NOTHING....For those who use there power like are polit6icans DO they dont deserve ANYTHING...
Larry, I would B infavor of eliminating in whole or in part, benefits or other financial compensation, or levying a fine(s) for elected state and federal officials who R proven to have knowingly grossly violated the U.S. Constitution or their state constitution... [assuming Amerikans among us continue 2 refuse to criminally investigate and prosecute them as they R soo eager 2 do 2 the rest of us]
.. or proven to have lied or conspired or misrepresented material fact, which places public health and / or safety at risk, or resulted in felony theft of funds from either the public treasury or individuals...ALL THINGS WHICH HAVE ALREADY OCCURED during the BUSH REIGN.
Sorry, Larry...the private peccadillos of aggressive progressive Anthony Weiner fail to rise to the level of asking him to step aside...
HOWEVER...let's allow for a real, honest fact finding of Weiner's use of office resources and /or "company" time..and if there is a substantial impact..by all means assess a fine or present him a "bill" which he should pay back. THAT'S TOTALLY "fine" by me (pun intended).
BUT, allowing someone with his articulate, passionate advocacy of REAL ISSUES that have REAL CONSEQUENCES for people other than his wife and himself..namely U and me...to leave office, would B a HORRIFIC MISTAKE with consequences I don't want to think about considering the TOXIC landscape (both literal and political) we R forced to navigate, due in NO SMALL PART to the concerted actions (both overt as well as covert) committed by the likes of radical GOP politicians (prostitutes) and their corporate pimps (the pharmaceutical industry, the petro-chemical industry, the 'health' insurance industry, tobacco, alcohol, banking, food processing and MANY OTHER industries).
BTW, if I were in the same league of someone like one of Bill Clinton's women, Weiner's women or Lawrence O'Donnell's guests, like Margaret Carlson or Jennifer Granholm, I'd B really busy texting, IMing and phone flirting.
I'd stop short of cell phoning my private parts, though. I'm NOT THAT BRAVE...or careless. Then again, even smart people do not so smart things sometimes.
HOW ABOUT U ?? would U 'cheat' on a girlfriend in either the real world or virtual world ?? AND DON'T MORALIZE OR JUSTIFY BASED ON U BEING A "private" citizen, please. :>)
peace
Let he who is without a webcam or digital camera cast the first stone!
mike brown-3575086 banned, misogy-trolling about the '@!$%#ification' of the US and steadily calling other users '@!$%#s'. One and done.
I gotta disagree with Ed on this one. If the Senator from Lousiana can still have his job after his name was found in a brothel's black book, then so can one who only took a picture of his junk.
He did not lie. Once found out he came foward. Nixon lied he had to resign. Lying when confronted with the facts is inexcusable for a politician.
Robert, I agree that the people we elect should not lie. However, how about politicians who scam to vote for them and when elected go straight against the wishes of the people. Take Wisconsin's governor, Ohio govenor, the Florida govenor who are destroying the people they represent. Now, I think it was a lot worse when Bush lied to the world about weapons of mass distruction that he knew was not true to get us into a war that killed and mamed thousands of Americans. Seems everyone was ok with those lies. Somehow, that seems much worse than making an unfortunate decision about a picture of his "assets".
Robert, The difference is that Vitter was breaking the law. Weiner was not. And Vitter lied every time he represented himself as a family values guy at the same time he was seeing prostitutes. Weiner never played the family values card. Nixon lied about matters that concerned his job as president of the United States - that would be treason. Weiner lied about tweeting a picture of his junk, and not even his naked junk - not exactly treasonous. Lying by politicians is inexcusable when they say things like the stimulus did not create any jobs then bragging about the jobs created in their state by stimulus money. Or almost anything that comes out of Michele Bachmann's mouth. Or WMD's in Iraq. Or saying wiretapping requires a warrant while wiretapping without a warrant. That is what we should be concerned about - not Anthony Weiner lying to cover his ass (or penis, as it were.)
no he shouldn't. the only taxpayers that matter are in his district. I could less about it
I do not agree with Mr. Schultz on 99% of his comments. I have gained a lot of respect for his intellectual honesty on the Weiner issue. Weiner lied, how can anybody trust him. Any politician, regardless of party, that lies as blatantly as he did should resign.
Do you have C-SPAN? Do you watch the floor of the Senate and the House? Do you listen to what those people say on the floor of Congress? And you are worried about a lie that Anthony Weiner told on TV? Please.
That is opinion Ms. Joanne. Everybody is entitle to it, Republicans and Democrats. You are not entitled to lie to the public when confronted with the facts in order to cover up a wrongdoing. In some cases you are prosecuted for it. Ask Martha Stewart.
If that's the case they all had better grab pencils to resign. After all Sarah Baracuda Lies like most woman apply lipstick on their lips. Tim, Newt, Mitt Haley Cantor lies several times a day Ryan can't even look into the camera lens when he lies about medicare voucher programs they need to get in line with the rest of the world.
When it comes to getting caught with your pants down or your hand in the cookie jar it is human nature to lie at first. It only makes coming clean with the truth harder . There are some that will continue to lie even after they are caught red handed . Those are the ones that need to be forced to resign.
I'm a Liberal Democrat and Weiner's not only a pervert but a STUPID PERVET! Resign you creep
Nanci, are you going to tell me with a straight face that you have never lied, never made a bad decision or used poor judgement. My goodness, what does any of this have to do with his passion that he has done in his job over the years. Why are Americans so preoccupied with sex scandals when we have so many other serious problems that need our attention. I find it amazing that this has caused such a ruckus, imagine, a sex scandal where NO sex actually occurred. Really, are we so stupid as to let this take over the media instead of focusing on the real issues.
Nanci L. ( post #19 ),
By definition, a "liberal" is someone who is "...tolerant of views differing from one's own; broad-minded; specifically, not orthodox...favoring reform or progress, as in religion, education, etc.; specifically, favoring political reforms tending toward democracy and personal freedom for the individual; progressive...SYN.--liberal implies tolerance of others' views as well as open-mindedness to ideas that challenge tradition, established institutions, etc...." --- courtesy of Webster's New World (not Palin's Neo-Con) Dictionary.
At some point Nanci, we have 2 distance ourselves, both dems and repos, libs and conservatives, progressives and reactionaries, frum the puritanical mindset of those with an agenda that serves 2 stranglehold, 2 corrupt REAL FAMILY values.
As Valerie-315 ( post #19.1 ) alluded, it's the puritanical social engineering by a vocal few, with the sometimes unwitting help of a corrupted corporate owned media, whose aim is to transform the US into a theocratically driven oligarchic plutocracy.
While sexting and sending naughty pics by cell phone and internet 2 relative strangers is part of a new social trend made possible with evolving technologies... this is small potatoes in the GRANDER SCHEME.
Society overall will continue 2 function as it always has...UNLESS WE NEGLECT TO FOCUS ON MATTERS THAT REALLY MATTER-- for the safety, health and security of ALL.
AND THAT requires us 2 recognize the relative importance of some individuals contributions versus those same individuals distractions.
The case of Weiner's weenie can serve as one of MANY of an onslaught of fabricated, coordinated events meant 2 ultimately DISTRACT U frum the REAL ISSUE AT HAND ( no pun intended ) :>
I'm not openly questioning yor belief that U R a "liberal democrat."
But, frum where I sit, U come across more like a repo party person, when U describe someone with Weiner's aggressive progressive pedigree, as "STUPID."
Instead, I'm asking U 2 ask yourself, AND OTHER PEEPS WHO HAVE HAD A SIMILAR VISCERAL REACTION 2 this "story," just how committed U R 2 the overall philosophy of what it means 2 B a liberal... or an American, for that matter.
Weiner should answer 2 his wife, not U or me, on matters like these. His indiscretion does NOT rise 2 the level of resigning his office---whereas there R PLENTY of GROSS VIOLATIONS of constitutional law committed by LOTS of other repo party politicos, who NEVER HAD TO ACCOUNT 4 THEIR ACTIONS... who didn't draw the indignation, the VISCERAL HATE in social media like this.
At the very least, THEY got to serve their full terms of office, leaving with ALL their $$ benefits intact... and a nation MEASURABLY WORSE OFF AS A RESULT !!
Climb down of yor moral high horsie, and join the rest of us in addressing the people in office who R the REAL PROBLEMS... the repo party PROSTITUTES for the corporate robber barons.
Those corporate politico PROSTITUTES give honest, working girls a BAD NAME. THEY R DESERVING OF YOR VISCERAL HATE... not agressive progressives like Weiner.
Resign? For what!? It was none of our business and it is NOTHING! Good grief! What's next...booting them out for picking their nose? Go check your children's tweets and texts...then come back and throw stones. OR...maybe you would gladly ruin your child's life for 'sexting'. Get a life, folks!
Your right, everyone does it so are we supposed to say because he is in public office he cant do anything? Its his private life not like he is doing any tweeting or sexting on the congress floor.
Maybe she asked him to send her a picture of something specific? Is there any proof she didn't? Have you never sent any kind of "naughty" photo to anyone? That being said, it was stupid of Weiner to do this and think it would not somehow come to light. I don't however think, he should have to resign over it.
Looks like your comment is very inaccurate. Most of the Democrats that I am acquainted with want Weiner to leave. Ed wants him to go, as well. Where do you get your information from--Palin?
They are not listening, Navey.....they just want to rant.
I feel that A. Wiener's story will blow over in about a week. I view it the same way I viewed Clinton's behavior or Elliot Spitzer's behavior. These actions impeded upon their marriages, but really had nothing to do with their politics. Unlike the Republicans who have committed similar offenses, none of these Democratic men have been hypocritical.
What Anthony Weiner did was a personal and private matter. This is only he and his family's business. Anthony Weiner "sexting" isn't going to make a damn bit of difference whether the GOP and their benefactors Wall Street, banks, and corporations from ripping off Main Street. He's one of the strong progressive voices that's truly with "We The People".
