A new, must-see video short exposes how Charles and David Koch, the wealthy conservative businessmen who fund a number of right-wing causes, are curtailing intellectual freedom and independence at our colleges and universities -- even by buying off departments and controlling the professor hiring process.
From our friends at Brave New Foundation, the video "Are The Koch Brothers Teaching You?," reveals an "old fashioned quid pro quo" where the Koch brothers have agreed to donate money to get professors to teach the "values of the 19th Century Guilded Age" to students at some 150 American colleges and universities.
Here's the scary part, according to Brave New Foundation:
"The Charles Koch Charitable Foundation has given more than $14.39 million in grants to universities like Florida State, Auburn, Clemson, West Virginia and Utah State. All five campuses are in financial agreements with Koch-supported groups requiring the university to hire candidates who adhere to defined ideological guidelines. In some cases, the Koch-supported groups recommend candidates to the faculty or have sway over the college’s hiring committee."

The moral majority demanded separation of church and state after the Scopes monkey trial when they were a minority of religious nuts. Professor Gloom Beck always said "Don't take my word for it, I want you to look it up." when he had a TV show. Must of been hoping that his sheeple wouldn't. I never was one of them. Easy, please explain how the Koch brothers' endowments will limit student's access to books. We should be thanking the big contributors to colleges, not trying to make some sort of conspiratorial theory as to their motives.
What about the huge grants by Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, etc. This is definitely a distraction perpetrated to deflect attention from the economy and the real issues of today.
Kathe: I was originally certified in secondary education, the easiest certificate to obtain. Later I earned my elementary certification. I have taught students from 3rd to 8th grade. I taught social studies, math, and (or course) coached (mostly football and wrestling); the last 14 years I taught 7th grade math (pre-algebra). I really enjoyed it, but I am enjoying retirement.
Pilot: I know the government can "screw" all of us, and make it legal. The Koch brothers have no legal authority.
BTW, I have really tried to find any influence they have had in the Tea Party since our last encounter. I can't find any. Please help me out, if you know of any. I'd really like to know!

Their "gift" has an attachment to it....to have a say in who will or will not teach and what the curricullum will be for the students that pay tuition to learn and get credits in poly-sci class.
